Voting across Muskoka extended one day to Tuesday night due to technical reasons

MUSKOKA – Phone and email voters across all six of Muskoka’s towns and townships have one more day to vote.

Election officials are blaming volume for voting being extended an extra day to Tuesday night.

Due to technical problems in Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Huntsville, Muskoka Lakes Township, Lake of Bays, and Georgian Bay Townshship, clerks in the three towns and four townships have extended voting to Tuesday night.

In Gravenhurst, they issued a release about 7:30 p.m., stating: “Due to a problem with the voting system supplier, and with several broadly reported problems, the Clerk of Gravenhurst/ Returning Official has declared an emergency under Section 53.1 of the Municipal Act and has extended the voting period to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at 8 pm.”

The Voter Help Centre remained open until 8 p.m. Monday and will be open tomorrow for ongoing assistance.

“In response, and to accommodate electors, the Municipal Clerk has extended the voting hours until 9 p.m. tonight, October 22, 2018. Electors are encouraged to vote online or by phone until 9 p.m. Monday.”

Later they emailed out that they are further extending the Voting Period until Tuesday, October 23rd at 8 p.m.

“The Town of Huntsville’s online voting system is continuing to experience significant slowdowns due to high volume usage.  In response, and to accommodate electors, the Municipal Clerk has extended the voting hours.

“Staff are managing the situation with our vendor to improve response time.”

They said electors are encouraged to vote online or by phone until Tuesday, October 23 at 8 p.m.
