Missing woman’s body found in wooded area of Muskoka Lakes Twp.

MUSKOKA LAKES TWP. — Police have found the body Saturday of a woman reported missing Tuesday, and have charged a man with second-degree murder.

Amanda McClaskin, 36, was reported missing Aug. 7. Her body was found Saturday in a wooded area of Muskoka Lakes Township.

Provincial police from West Parry Sound say they responded to a report of a missing person Aug. 7.

Amanda McClaskin, 36, of Britt-Byng Inlet was last seen on Aug. 3 walking away from her residence.

Her body was located early Aug. 11 in a wooded area near Lake Joseph Road in Muskoka Lakes Township.

As a result, Mark St. Amand, 39, of Britt-Byng Inlet has been charged with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body.

Britt-Byng Inlet is near Georgian Bay, west of Magetawan First Nation, and south of where the Parry Sound 33 forest fire is located.

The accused has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on Thursday.

The investigation remains ongoing with members of the West Parry Sound Crime Unit, North East Region Crime Team, Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Aviation Services under the direction of Det. Insp. Rob Matthews of the Criminal Investigation Branch of the OPP.
