Swim advisory lifted at Gull Lake Rotary Park

Warnings were posted at the Gull Lake Rotary Park beach this week, but a few people still bathed on the beach or waded in shallow water.

GRAVENHURST – A health unit advisory for Gull Lake Rotary Park in Gravenhurst has been lifted.

Just in time for more 30+ hot weather in the week ahead.

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit had issued a warning earlier this week (on Tuesday July 17) after taking water samples on Monday (July 16).

Elevated bacteria levels were detected causing an advisory and the posting of signs urging swimmers and sun bathers to be careful near the water.

They were urged not to drink the water or open their eyes under water for fear of infections or rashes.

Signs were posted by the town and life guards were still at the beach but not actively patrolling the docks.

And on Wednesday a handful of people were still using the beach sunbathing, wading or in at least one case a man in goggles was swimming.

Thursday, the Town of Gravenhurst advised that the warning had been lifted and that the beach was back to regular use.

Gull Lake has a history of bacteria and being closed or have warnings posted to swimmers each summer for various times.

The beach was mostly desserted Wednesday about noon, as people paid attention to the town and health unit advisory.
