Beausoleil First Nations latest to issue total fire ban

BEAUSOLEIL FIRST NATION — Fire ban orders are spreading like — well, wild fire.

Total fire bans are spreading across Central Ontario for the middle of July.

Following all of Muskoka and nearby Tay and Tiny Townships earlier this week, the most recent one comes from a First Nations territory in the west of the district. Midland, Penetanguishene and fire departments in Haliburton have announced similar total fire bans.

That’s pretty much the story right across Central Ontario as the July heat wave continues as predicted by Evironment Canada.

“By the Order of Chief and Council, Beausoleil First Nation and Beausoleil Fire and Rescue Services are issuing a FIRE BAN on ALL types of open air burning. The FIRE BAN means ABSOLUTELY NO BURNING of any materials will be allowed at any time on Beausoleil First Nation Territory. Beausoleil First Nation territory includes Christian Island, Beckwith Island, Hope Island and Cedar Point,” they say in a release Thursday.

The total fire ban is in place “for the safety and protection of the community and all First Responders.

“Conditions are far too dangerous and there is a high risk of a small campfire turning into a catastrophic event. Failure to comply with this fire ban can result in damage to public and personal property and can endanger the lives of the public. V

“Violators may be investigated by Authorities which may result in criminal and or civil proceedings.”

The ban is in place for all residents, cottagers, campers and tourists, it emphasizes.

“We ask that all non-emergency fires be reported to Beausoleil Fire and Rescue Services during the duration of the fire ban by calling 705-529-2199 or 911 if immediate danger is suspected. We appreciate your cooperation with this important matter of public safety.
