‘Suspicious’ package that closed Balll’s Drive ‘safe’

BRACEBRIDGE — Police have given the all-clear on a package they deemed “suspicious,” which closed a west section of the downtown Wednesday mid-afternoon.

A concerned citizen called police about a “suspicious package,” atto a gas meter in the Ball’s Flats area of Bracebridge Wednesday.

On May 17, at 3:10 p.m., OPP from Bracebridge got a call from a concerned member of the public about a package “affixed to the meter station for natural gas on Ball’s Drive in Bracebridge.”

Officers checked it out and closed Ball’s Drive to traffic and rerouted buses leaving a nearby Monsignor O’Leary elementary school in order that the package could be inspected.

After an investigation, it was determined that the package was placed there for a specific purpose relating to gas flow and did not pose a threat, said police.

Bracebridge OPP appreciates all calls of concern from the public and relies on a strong partnership with community members who are willing to become engaged and report suspicious activity in their community.
