Driver escapes police, K9 chase after crash

ORILLIA OPP are searching for a driver who fled a police chase and crashed into a tree before running away early Monday.

Durham and Ontario police pursued a vehicle before it crashed into a pole early Monday.

On May 22, at about 12:50 a.m., OPP from Orillia attempted to stop a vehicle in the city.

They were acting on information from Durham Regional Police after a vehicle failed to stop for them.

The vehicle was spotted on Highway 12.

Officers followed the vehicle for a short period and attempted a traffic stop; however, the vehicle, once again, failed to stop for officers.

Police discontinued their efforts to stop the vehicle after a brief police chase

A short while later the vehicle struck a telephone pole at West Street and Colborne Street, and the driver fled the scene.

After a short foot pursuit Central Region Canine (K9) and Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) were called in to assist in searching for the driver of the vehicle.

The male is still at large and police are continuing their investigation.
