Human remains found at Shanty Bay golf club

ORO-MEDONTE TOWNSHIP Hunters who found human remains here have led to an OPP probe at the Heritage Hills Golf Club Tuesday.

Hunters found the remains on the Heritage Hills Golf Club property on Tuesday morning about 8 a.m.

Provincial police say an investigation is currently underway following the discovery in the area of 367 Line 1 South, Oro-MedonteTownship, Shanty Bay, February 27.

They say that shortly before 8 a.m., officers from the Barrie detachment were dispatched after the discovery by a group of hunters on the property, just east of the Hwy. 400 and Hwy. 11 north interchange at Barrie

The identity of the deceased is not known at this time and preparations are currently underway by the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) to tent and heat the area where the human remains have been located.

This process is expected to take place over the next couple of days and once the accumulation of snow and ice is melted, a Forensic Anthropologist will attend and assist with the removal of the deceased.

The remains will then be transported to the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service (OCC- OFPS) for a forensic post mortem examination.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Barrie-Orillia OPP Crime Unit and at the present time, there is no imminent threat to public safety.

Police don’t think foul play is involved.
