GRAVENHURST — The on-again, off-again swim advisory at Gull Lake Rotary Park is on as today, Tuesday, Aug. 13.

In what is becoming an all too common an occurrence for swimmers and bathers at the troubled downtown public waterfront swimming beach, the town has issued another warning, causing concern for cause of the ongoing problem that only rarely seems to affect other beachfronts locally and across Muskoka.

This is the fifth advisory in just over a month, since July 9.

Once again, based on beach water samples collected on Monday Aug. 12, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is recommending that Gull Lake Rotary Park Beach be posted with swim advisory signs due to elevated levels of E. coli.

And, again, the town will be providing modified swimming lessons at Gull Lake Beach and be in contact with all participants should there be further changes to the schedule.

During a swimming advisory, the beach is posted with warning signs that the most recent water samples showed bacteria in numbers that may increase your risk of developing minor skin, eye, ear, nose or throat infections or stomach illness. If you choose to swim during a swimming advisory avoid dunking your head or swallowing the water.
