AITCHISON WINS TORY FEDERAL NOMINATION SUNDAY

BRACEBRIDGE — The Tories have their man.

As widely expected, Huntsville Mayor Scott Aitchison won the federal party’s Parry Sound-Muskoka nomination Sunday afternoon, here at the Sportsplex.

He ran against Holly Thompson, Meghan Shannon and Ian Fraser.

Thompson was an early leader, who appeared to have the backing of a large number of the Progressive Conservative members locally.

Aitchison says he will take a leave as mayor once the election officially begins, in the fall.

The election is Oct. 21.

He will be up against Liberal Trisha Cowie, who ran last time, and Tom Young, a first-time NDP candidate.

The Greens have yet to announce who will run for them.
