DRIVER HITS RETAINING WALL TODAY, CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION; TWO OTHER DRIVERS ARRESTED YESTERDAY FOR HAVING CANNABIS READILY AVAILABLE IN VEHICLE

MUSKOKA — A Halifax man who left the main road going through Port Carling, and struck a retaining wall, was arrested and charged just before dawn this morning.

Police say that on Tuesday, August 4, at 4:40 a.m., officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Medora Street near Armstrong Point Road in Muskoka Lakes Township.

The driver left the roadway and struck a retaining wall, but fortunately there were no injuries sustained.

Police arrived and subsequently arrested and charged 29-year-old Kishan Patel, of Halifax, N.S., with Impaired Operation and Over 80.

Patel is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge September 15, 2026.

Meanwhile, yesterday, two other young drivers face cannabis related offences early Monday.

Police say that on August 3, at 1:30 a.m., an officer conducting patrols in Gravenhurst stopped a vehicle on Talisman Drive.

The officer became concerned about the presence of cannabis and charged the 18-year-old driver, from Mapleton Twp., with Having care/control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

He is also charged with Person under 19-possess cannabis.

His passenger, a 16-year-old female from Gravenhurst, was warned for Person under 19-possess cannabis possession.

Also on Monday, at 8:40 p.m., police responded to a concern from a member of the public after they noticed a strong cannabis smell emanating from a vehicle in a parking lot on Bethune Drive South in Gravenhurst.

Officers located the vehicle with a group of young people between the ages of 16 and 20 inside.

An investigation resulted in the driver, a 20-year-old from Pefferlaw, facing a charge for Having care/control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

Ontario’s Cannabis Control Act (2017) has established prohibitions relating to cannabis including those intended to protect youth. No person under the age of 19 is permitted to possess or consume cannabis. Furthermore, no person is permitted to drive or have the care or control of a vehicle or boat (whether or not it is in motion) while any cannabis is contained in the vehicle or boat.
