GRAVENHURST — Summer means fun times for most and always more emergencies for paramedics who often have to call in air support.
Last evening was such a case.
The skies around Muskoka Airport are routinely filled with float planes landing on the lake and even helicopters.
But when the distinctive whirring chopper sound and sight of the bright Ornge ambulance circles and lands at the empty sports field at the Muskoka Wharf it’s slightly unusual
Just not for those involved.
Though involving a non-serious incident, when it set down for what turned out to be fairly routine-looking patient transfer it was none-the-less interesting to observe four Muskoka Paramedic Services paramedics, an OPP officer and two people emerge from the helicopter and go about their business in an easy professional manner on an otherwise beautiful July day.
Calm and cool.
It took just over 15 minutes to land and take off with another man aboard.
The patient, who was conscious and looking up while topless and wearing a blue bathing suit or shorts, was unloaded from the land truck, moved to a second stretcher and taken across the field and lifted aboard the flight for the second half of his emergency journey in 10 minutes.
Another job well done by EMS and that no doubt was repeated this Tuesday under different circumstances likely before and after the stop in Gravenhurst.
