GRAVENHURST — Hurry! There are only a few choice seats left Friday for another Gravenhurst Rotary Club fundraiser for the town’s new Health Hub.
Steve Rae and the Pony Man Band are back at the Gravenhurst Opera House for another Lightfoot & Friends tribute, led by singer, songwriter, storyteller Steve Rae.
The show is called Lightfoot and Friends and is inspired by the benefit concert in October of 1977 at the Detroit Olympia which featured Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, John Denver and Harry Chapin.
It raised money for Chapin’s charity World Hunger Year. And Rae’s band is raising money for the Health Hub.
And will feature music from each of these great artists.

Rae and the Pony Men have played to great acclaim a number of times in Gravenhurst in recent years.
Rae, who lives in south Gravenhurst, has been well-received and returns with multi instrumentalist Mick Torbay, guitar virtuoso Gerry Holden, and instrumentalist/vocalist Allain Brisson.
Steve Rae is a Muskoka-based singer/songwriter whose music career spans decades, rooted in his early love for stringed instruments. He first picked up a ukulele at age six, later transitioning to guitar and banjo in his teens. Over the years, he has refined his craft through a variety of performances, from intimate pub gigs (including one venue where he played every Thursday night for 13 years) to concert stages across Ontario with his band The Pony Man Band. His talent has earned him the opportunity to open for some of Canada’s finest musicians, including Murray McLauchlan, Valdy, and Loreena McKennitt.
A prolific songwriter, Steve has written over 150 original songs, blending his musical skills with a deep connection to storytelling.
His musical journey was significantly influenced by the legendary Gordon Lightfoot, whose songs he first discovered in the late 1960s. His passion for Lightfoot’s music led to earning recognition for his heartfelt tribute performances with the show Lightfoot, The Legend Lives On, which that resonates deeply with audiences across Canada and beyond.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, they embraced the digital world through “Steve’s Song Garden,” performing daily on Facebook Live for 200 straight days and building a dedicated following of thousands of music fans across the globe.
