MAN, 19, STRUCK BY FALLING TREE LAST NIGHT IN PORT SYDNEY DURING THUNDER STORM — WITH ANOTHER SEVERE WEATHER WARNING THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING

PORT SYDNEY Last night’s massive downpour across Muskoka has claimed the life of a 19-year-old man in Port Sydney after was struck by a falling tree just after rain began pelting down.

Police across Muskoka responded to multiple calls for help as the severe thunderstorm moved through the area May 18.

At 8:45 p.m. Monday officers in Huntsville began receiving numerous reports of downed trees and hydro lines across roadways throughout their area.

Then at 9 p.m. they were called to an incident on Clearwater Lake Road in Port Sydney, where an unidentified 19-year-old male was struck by a falling tree.

He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Hazardous conditions remain today with ongoing reports of downed trees and wires as workers contend with the result a heat wave.

Police urged members of the public to exercise caution when travelling and to avoid areas affected by storm damage.

There are still reports of trees across roadways and wires down. They ask the public to drive with care on roads.

Due to power outages affecting traffic signals, motorists are reminded to use caution when approaching intersections and to treat non-functioning traffic lights as a four-way stop.

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board also reported this morning that there was an outage in the area affecting Huntsville Public School, Pine Glen Public School, Riverside Public School and Huntsville High School, including power, phones, and internet.

But the school remains open to students and staff.
