GRAVENHURST — Rain or shine Rotary Rocks the Barge will officially open tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
No need to bring a chair — the club has seating for more than 500 on the bank overlooking Gull Lake and the Barge.
The Rotary and Town of Gravenhurst amphitheatre project at Gull Lake Rotary Park, which began as part of the service club 85th anniversary two years ago, commences at 1 p.m. with Rotarian Steve Rae entertaining before the official kick off.
A year ago on the same day he and his band wowed the crowd at the Opera House in a Rotary Rocks the Barge fundraiser with some of his favourite Gordon Lightfoot songs.
That’s fitting Lightfoot played the Barge. Unfortunately the Orillia singer/songwriter won’t be at Mariposa again this weekend.
The huge half-million dollar seating and park lighting and landscaping project is a major improvement for the popular concert venue.
Following the ceremony there will the tradition cake cutting to commemorate the event.
The unveiling of a donor rock with the names of significant contributors has been delayed due to engraving and will be installed later in the summer.
Everyone is welcome — including our American friends, visitors and cottagers who can combine their July 4 celebrations.
