SUSPENDED DRIVER WHO DITCHED VEHICLE IN HUNTSVILLE ALSO CHARGED WITH EARLIER ASSAULT

HUNTSVILLE A man police say was involved in an earlier assault was arrested and charged last night after a vehicle he was driving landed in a ditch along Hwy. 11 just north of Hwy. 60 in Huntsville.

The 30-year-old driver from Huntsville faces multiple charges including leaving the scene of a single motor vehicle collision.

The OPP say that on Friday May 19, at about 8:45 p.m., officers responded to a northbound vehicle off the road, with witnesses reporting the driver fled on foot.

Members of the Huntsville OPP detachment and the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT) located the driver and he was taken into custody.

Further investigation revealed he had been involved in an earlier altercation leading to additional charges.

Police aren’t releasing his name to protect the identity of the victim.

He was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
  • Dangerous operation
  • Assault with a weapon – two counts
  • Assault
  • Uttering threats to cause death or serious bodily harm
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Fail to remain at the scene of a collision
  • Drive while under suspension

He was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody.
