FIVE DRINKING, DRIVING CHARGES IN 12 DAYS
HUNTSVILLE — A spate of drinking and driving charges here has provincial police noting concerns.
They say four out of five recent cases involved local drivers in the Huntsville OPP detachment areas.
On Friday, January 24 police were called to a suspicious vehicle that was parked in the Otter Lake area of Lake of Bays Township. Officers located the vehicle and stopped it on Marina Road in Lake of Bays.
As a result of the traffic stop, driver Michael West, 37, of Huntsville was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired with Blood Concentration more than 80mgs, under the Criminal Code of Canada. He is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville on February 19, 2020 to answer to the charges.
A week later, on January 31, a 911 call led police to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 60 in Lake of Bays Township.
Witness were concerned that the driver had been drinking, and officers confirmed this.
Matthew Durr, 47, of Lake of Bays was charged with Operation While Impaired and More Than 80mgs of alcohol under the Criminal Code of Canada.
He, too, is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville February 19, 2020 to answer to the charges.
Four days later, on February 4, OPP stopped a motor vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act offence and found that the driver had been drinking.
Trevor Summers-Arndt, 44, of Lake of Bays was charged with Operation While Impaired more than 80mgs under the Criminal Code of Canada.
His court appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice is March 11, 2020.
Also February 4, police noticed a vehicle parked in area that had recent thefts.
The officer approached the vehicle and found that the driver had been drinking.
A 31-year-old from Huntsville was charged with Operation While Impaired more than 80mgs under the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on March 11, 2020 to answer to the charges.
Also January 24, police stopped a vehicle on Muskoka Road #3 north and found that the driver had been drinking.
Tyler Kuittinen, 20, of Melancthon Township was issued a 3 day driver’s licence suspension. This driver was also issued a Provincial Offence Notice for being a G2 driver with blood alchohol concentration (BAC) above zero.
