SOUTH MUSKOKA — A reported “expansion” said to be built behind the SMMH in Bracebridge — which could conceivably come before a new hospital is built in south Muskoka — is being denied today by Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare.
A story yesterday quoted a “reliable medical source” who said it would replace the current helicopter pad and that the pad would be moved elsewhere on site.
The expansion size and overall implications potentially being huge as discussions continue with the province for two new hospitals in Muskoka.
Calling it “baseless,” Jason Ballantyne, interim director of communications and stakeholder relations, replied in an email today after a request for comment yesterday, stating emphatically: “The fundamental assertion on which the story is based is simply not true.”
He said: “Given the seriousness of the misinformation and the confusion it could create in the community,” and “after looking into this thoroughly, I need to be very clear: the central premise of this article is completely baseless.
“There have been no discussions, plans or proposals within MAHC about expanding the existing South Muskoka hospital on its current site as described in the article. We do not know where this information originated. … This is not a matter of MAHC disputing a detail or correcting a misquotation. The fundamental assertion on which the story is based is simply not true.”
