GRAVNHURST — Not to be confused with the TV show “Still Standing” with Johnny Harris, a play on tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at the Opera House still has many similarities.
The former is about struggling towns — the latter is about people with Alzheimer’s who are also still alive — and living.
“I’m Still Here!” is a sensitive, yet upbeat drama, presenting the challenges of people living with dementia during progressive stages of the disease.
This research-based play is based on the real words of people living with dementia and is formed from the work of two nurses who were pursuing a PhD on living with dementia. The script was then developed by playwright Vrenia Ivonoffski, the founding artistic director of act2studioWORKS, at Toronto Metropolitan University.
For more than 20 years the play has helped audiences to better understand the realities and challenges of living with dementia for individuals, their families and their caregivers, helping to reduce unnecessary suffering and making interactions as productive and meaningful as possible.
The play is being promoted by the Muskoka Alzheimer’s Association.
And it includes a Q&A following the play.
