TORRANCE — Labour Day doesn’t have to mean the end of summer shopping sprees for locals, tourists and cottagers.
Muskoka has plenty of buying opportunities from downtowns to roadsides.
Among the pop-up destinations worthwhile stopping at is French Toast Vintage.ca at Muskoka Crossing — just five kms east of Bala
Owner Porschia Thomas has delightful handmade, Jamaican inspired bags and clothing she’s sewn together and on display in a funky little house trailer and cedar cabin next to Hwy. 169 in Torrance.

It’s a delightful shop stop when dropping in for a coffee and sandwich break at the Torrance Crossroads intersection between the village’s downtown and Southwood Road. She was sitting at a picnic table next to the Airstream food trailer and doing business working on her laptop this week while giving a staff member the day off.
Thomas, who is from Ajax and was staying at an area Airbnb, also has a stall at the Kensington Market in Toronto where she sells her colourfully unique clothing, popular bags and wares.
And next to the former Torrance General Store, which still offers some groceries and provision, but also has a Boutique and clothing Nook inside.
She said business has been “good” this summer.
It’s one of Muskoka’s many small seasonal operations that make the trip here worthwhile.
