TWO CHARGED IN GRAVENHURST, AFTER WOMAN SUFFERS GUNSHOT WOUND IN WINTER SHOOTING, FOLLOWING LENGTHY POLICE INVESTIGATION

GRAVENHURST — Police have charged two people in relation to a shooting at a public housing unit in Gravenhurst last winter, in which a woman suffered a gunshot wound.
With one of them in bail court today.
On February 9, at 9:30 p.m., officers, along with Muskoka EMS, responded to a 911 call from an address on Bethune Drive South in Gravenhurst, after a woman had been shot.
She was transported to hospital and transferred to a Toronto area hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers recovered a firearm in the residence and the Muskoka Crime Unit began an investigation into the incident, which they say was detailed and time consuming.
As a result, the OPP charged two people.
The first person was arrested June 3, when police charged Chantelle Conway-Penrose, 38, of Gravenhurst, with:
- Careless Use of Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Possession of Loaded Prohibited Firearm
- Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking X 2
- Possession of Schedule IV substance for the purpose of trafficking
Conway-Penrose is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 25, 2026 to answer to her charges.
She was recently charged on July 10 in an unrelated case, with Possession of a Schedule I Substance (cocaine) for the purpose of trafficking. She was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 25, 2016.

Conway-Penrose was also involved in another Gravenhurst shooting back in late June 2022, in which a person died of a self-inflected wound, at the Lofty Pines public housing units, when the doorway of her home was struck by a stray bullet.

And yesterday, August 12, police arrested and charged Angela Morgan, 31, of Gravenhurst, over the same Feb. 9 incident, with:
- Transfer Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon without Authority
- Carrying Concealed Weapon
- Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with ammo
- Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Careless Use of Firearm
Morgan appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge today, August 13, 2026, for a bail hearing to answer to her charges.
