SMALL MORNING FIRE TODAY IN HUNTSVILLE TOWN HALL WASHROOM CLEARED WITHIN AN HOUR

HUNTSVILLE — A small fire reported at 11 a.m. was cleared by noon today inside a public washroom at the town hall that closed the offices for the rest of the day.

The cause is under investigation and no injuries were involved.

The town said early this afternoon that at about 11:02 a.m., the Huntsville firefighters were called after fire alarms activated inside the building.

Maintenance staff investigated the alarm panel and identified the activation in the public washroom on Main Street, where they encountered thick black smoke and called 911.

Upon arrival, firefighters entered the washroom and found a small fire that was quickly extinguished using a portable fire extinguisher, and damage was contained to the washroom area.

Firefighters ventilated the building to remove smoke and ensure safe air quality.

The building was turned back over to maintenance at 12:02 p.m.

Huntsville Town Hall will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

Fire Prevention Officers are conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The Huntsville Fire Department reminds residents and building staff that if you encounter smoke, closing the door and calling 911 immediately are the safest actions. Portable fire extinguishers should only be used when the fire is small, conditions are safe, and you have a clear exit.
