LAKE OF BAYS MAN, 52, DIES IN HEAD-ON MOTORCYCLE CRASH LAST NIGHT IN TORRANCE; VEHICLE DRIVER, 22, CHARGED WITH DANGEROUS OPERATION CAUSING DEATH

TORRANCE — A 22-year-old vehicle driver was in bail court this morning charged with dangerous operation causing death, after a 52-year-old Lake of Bays man died in a head-on collision last night while riding his motorcycle on Hwy. 169.
Police are investigating the fatal collision near Torrance, in Muskoka Lakes Township, in west Muskoka. Just about 10 kilometres east of Bala, west of Gravenhurst.
They say that on Saturday, August 8, shortly after 8:30 p.m., police responded to several 911 calls about a head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on Muskoka Road 169, near East Black Lake Road.
Despite lifesaving efforts from bystanders and EMS, the motorcycle rider was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the passenger vehicle did not report any injuries.
Janavbir Singh, of Springwater Township (near Barrie), was charged with Dangerous operation causing death. He was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
OPP Technical Collision Investigators and a Reconstructionist attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
Muskoka Road 169 was closed just west of the “Muskoka crossing” train tracks and baseball park at Torrance on the Gravenhurst side of East Black Lake Road. It was closed for several hours, for the on-scene investigation and clean-up efforts, but since reopened. Traffic was also turned around and directed back in to Bala. A few were quickly able to detour onto Southwood Road before the closure.
