SPEEDING DRIVER CAUGHT TRAVELLING 197 KM/H IN POSTED 10O ZONE LAST NIGHT ON HWY. 11 IN HUNTSVILLE

HUNTSVILLE A young driver was stopped last night speeding at nearly double the Hwy. 11 traffic limit.

On Thursday, July 9, at 9:50 pm, an officer conducting traffic enforcement near Greer Road in Huntsville stopped a northbound vehicle after it clocked by radar travelling at 197 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.

As a result of the investigation a 24-year-old from Newcastle was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform Stunt.

And their driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

The accused was released from the scene to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in September.

The charge comes shortly after the province increased some speed limits on 400 series highways.

But not north out of Toronto toward Muskoka.

The OPP continues to remind motorists that excessive speed puts everyone at risk and remains one of the leading contributing factors in fatal and serious-injury collisions on Ontario roads. Three impaired driving investigations

The stop follows three other impaired driving investigations recently.

On Thursday, July 2, at 9:45 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11 in Huntsville and charged Brook Senay, 25, of Toronto, with Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration (80 plus)

On Saturday, July 4, at 2:55 a.m., officers doing general patrol a suspicious vehicle on Forbes Hill Drive in Huntsville and subsequently initiated an impaired driving investigation.

Trent Kenney, 27, of Huntsville, was charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); and Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

Also Canada Day, at 8:20 p.m., officers responded to a disturbance at Arrowhead Provincial Park.

Several witnesses reported observing a motor vehicle being driven erratically throughout the park. Officers located the driver and charged Ramon Quirarte, 38, of Toronto, with

Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); and Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs.

All accused were released from custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge in August.

Huntsville OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead if they choose to consume alcohol or drugs. Consider using a designated driver, taxi, public transit, or staying overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impair your ability to operate a vehicle safely.
