SPARROW LAKE — For a hundred years, the shores of Sparrow Lake have been a backdrop for summer memories, lasting friendships, and the quintessential cottage life.
This weekend, the water babies of generations past and present, along with their families, will gather to mark a full century of life on the lake at the Sparrow Lake Association’s (SLA) 100th-anniversary celebration.
The bonds forged on this water run deep.
Just ask John and Denise Cooper and their friend Elizabeth “Tish” Graham.
Once waterfront neighbours on Sparrow Lake, the trio now find themselves living side-by-side once again at the Ditchburn and Greavette condos at the Muskoka Wharf.
“We can’t get rid of each other,” they joked while catching up at Friday night’s “Being Frank” Sinatra concert.

They are among the many locals and seasonal residents eagerly looking forward to sharing a BBQ lunch, Saturday Aug. 1, with old friends, proving that lake ties last a lifetime.
The SLA is encouraging everyone to bring family and friends to join the festivities.
According to their latest newsletter, the anniversary bash is the perfect opportunity to have some fun while getting to know — or “reacquaint yourself” — with members from all corners of the lake.
Attendees can expect a massive spread of great food alongside traditional summer sports on the grass. The lawn will be alive with friendly competition, featuring classic cottage games like Corn Hole, badminton, and bocce ball — with plenty of prizes up for grabs.
And because it wouldn’t be a true Muskoka weekend without rolling with the punches of the weather, the event is going ahead rain or shine.
After all, isn’t that the cottage way?

Event Details:
- Location: Muskoka Beach House (previously Silver Pines), 1613 Kilworthy Rd., Kilworthy.
- Admission: SLA members $30; non-members $40.
