GRAVENHURST — “Always be prepared!”
Rick Allen knows that as a Scout leader since 1967 — and Cub growing up before.
And while he’s always ready, sometimes life doesn’t quite cooperate.
This morning as he and his wife Diane were driving south on Muskoka Road North, he ended up in a big fender bender that “totalled” an unoccupied, parked pickup truck on northbound side of the main street.
They’re alright; not so much their beloved Grand Cherokee, which suffered a fair bit of front end damage blowing up the driver’s side air bag in the collision.

Tom McCleallan says now that he was working inside the Royal Bank when his parked Chevrolet Silverado High Country, which was not headed north, was struck and he says “destroyed.”
“You never know,” said Allen who’s wrist was wrapped up by paramedics, as the couple sat on a street bench in front of the Royal Bank where the accident occurred around 11 a.m. while waiting for two tow trucks to take away their vehicle and the other one involved.
The dedicated Scout leader, who just turned 79 June 14, said he continues to help out at the Scout Hall on John Street, with building maintenance, “testing the alarms each month and filling in at meetings when needed.”
But for now he’ll have to find new wheels for the 2018 SUV, which his wife said “we really loved. It’s in such good shape.”
And get ready for whatever life throws at them next.
When it does they’ll still be prepared for anything.
