Doesn’t matter.

They all added up to to needed donations to help Muskokans with Alzheimer’s and other dementias receive personal care in their new journeys, while celebrating Memories (that) Matter to Us.

That was the weekend theme as a couple hundred people took part in two afternoon walks in Bracebridge Saturday and Sunday in Huntsville around the two high school tracks.

And a few blocks away venturing into nearby neighbourhoods.

Both memorable.

It was sunny days for sunny ways May 30 and May 31, as communities across Muskoka took thousands of steps together to bring hope, vital support, and raise awareness for families facing Alzheimer’s, dementia and the important work they all do.

The annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is Canada’s largest fundraiser supporting people living with dementia and the families who care for them.

The event brings together individuals, families, businesses, and community leaders to walk in solidarity, while raising funds for vital local programs and services.

Organized by the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka, the walk helps fund counselling, education, support groups, and resources that assist people living with dementia at every stage of the journey.

Derrick and Mae Jeanes, of Bracebridge, both 89, were among those at BMLSS where they explained how they take part in weekly events at the Manitoba Street office.

That was the prevailing attitude as about 100 people turned out or donated online.

It was the same in Huntsville the following day.

A pair of 50-50 draws also contributed to the cause, said president John Adresen.
