FORD CELEBRATES $280 MILLION HOSPITAL REDEVELOPMENT IN CAMBRIDGE TODAY

MUSKOKA — While Muskoka waits for two new future hospitals, Premier Doug Ford was in Cambridge Friday celebrating the completion of Cambridge Memorial Hospital’s (CMH) redevelopment for residents across Cambridge, North Dumfries and the Region of Waterloo.
The province says it invested more than $220 million for 400,000 square feet of hospital space in renovating, redeveloping and building a new patient care tower.
According to Patrick Gaskin, CEO and president of Cambridge Memorial Hospital,$280 million ($60 million in Local Share) million went into redeveloping sections of the hospital, including Wing B’s in-patient units equipped with more privacy and accessibility, the newly opened laboratory space and surgical day care. He said in all, 156,000 square feet of space was renovated and upgraded.
“Back 10 years ago, we had 150 beds.” Now it will have 197 beds.
“That’s a 33 per cent increase in our bed capacity.”
Renovations include:
- A new patient care tower equipped with state-of-the art surgical and birthing suites, emergency department, intensive care unit, maternal newborn unit, paediatric unit and mental health unit
- Expanded capacity with the addition of 52 new inpatient beds to connect more people to acute care and support services, bringing the total number of beds to 197
- Fully renovated and enhanced laboratory and diagnostic imaging departments, featuring three radiology rooms, fluoroscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, mammography, bone density, and a new nuclear medicine unit to help detect and treat cancer and other diseases
- A purpose-built rehabilitation department with 17 additional rehabilitation medicine beds to support the growing need for comprehensive recovery and therapy programs in the region
- Three new dedicated endoscopy suites, equipped with an expanded pre and post operative recovery space to ensure seamless patient care and privacy
“Our government is making record investments in hospital infrastructure to expand access to world-class care in communities across the province,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health.

- Cambridge Memorial Hospital is a full-service, acute care hospital committed to providing exceptional health care to the communities of Cambridge, North Dumfries and the Region of Waterloo.
- Over the next 10 years, Ontario’s investments will lead to nearly $50 billion in health infrastructure across the province, building 3,000 new beds in addition to over 3,500 critical care, acute and post-acute beds our government has added since 2020.
- Through the Your Health Plan, Ontario is getting shovels in the ground for over 50 hospital developments across the province.
- This includes building a new, state-of-the-art hospital in the Waterloo Region and supporting a new Cardiac Catheterization Lab at St. Mary’s Hospital.
- The Ontario government is investing more than $228 million this year to support critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 129 hospitals and 58 community health care facilities across the province, a 10 per cent increase from last year. This includes over $1.13 million at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in 2024-25.
