DRIVER FOUND ASLEEP AT WHEEL WAS ONE OF TWO MUSKOKANS CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION LAST WEEK

MUSKOKA — A driver who had to be awakened while stopped to gas up was among two Muskoka residents charged with impaired driving last week.

Police say that on Tuesday January 7, at 5:15 p.m., an officer stopped at a service centre located on Highway 11 North in Gravenhurst and while there noticed a vehicle stopped at the gas pumps for an extended period of time.

The officer approached the vehicle and had to rouse the male driver.

As a result of an investigation, police arrested and charged 34-year-old Mackenzie Weaver, of Bracebridge, with Operation while Impaired by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a) and Operation while Prohibited CC 320.18(1)(a).

Weaver is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on February 18, 2025 to answer to his charges.

And last weekend, police charged a Port Sydney man.

On Saturday January 4, just before midnight, a member of the public called police concerned about the condition of a driver who appeared to be having trouble with their vehicle in the parking lot of a building centre on Manitoba Street near Falkenburg Road in Bracebridge.

Officers attended and did an impaired driving investigation and subsequently arrested and charged 38-year-old Evan Monk, of Port Sydney with the following:

  • Operation while Impaired CC 320.14(1)(a)
  • Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand CC 320.15(1)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer CC 129(a)
  • Operation while Prohibited under the Criminal Code CC 320.18(1)(a) X 4.

Monk was held in custody for a bail hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge.
