NOVICE DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION AFTER CLOCKING 95 KM/H OVER SPEED LIMIT

HUNTSVILLE A Saturday night speeder was clocked going 95 km/h over the limit, say police.

The OPP arrested the operator charging them with an impaired-related charge after stopping a motor vehicle speeding on Hwy. 11.

On Nov. 23 at 9:48 p.m., officers were northbound on highway when their vehicle was overtaken by a motor vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed

A police chase ensued and an investigation revealed the driver to be operating a motor vehicle while impaired.

As a result, Islam Herzallah, 25, of Thornhill, has been charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed

The accused had his Driver’s Licence suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for 14 days.

Herzallah is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Dec. 17, 2024, at 9:00 a.m.

The Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign is an annual police enforcement and education initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off Ontario roads during the holiday season. This year’s campaign runs from Nov. 21, 2024 to January 1, 2025

The OPP reminds drivers that no amount of alcohol or drugs in your system is safe when driving. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.

The 25-year-old Thornhill driver faces several charges including 95 km/h over the limit.
