NEW VOLUNTEER ORGANIZER WANTS TO CONNECT THOSE WITH A FEW SPARE HOURS TO HELP OUT IN COMMUNITY

GRAVENHURST — A seniors drop-in Thursdays at Bethune House is a stepping stone for a new volunteer group in Gravenhurst.

Wendy Pries has arranged for a Happy Hour coffee klatch from 1-3 p.m. for anyone wanting to get out and chat.

She also sees it as an opportunity to inform potential volunteers of the many opportunities available to help out in the community.

And a chance to become a clearing house for connecting volunteers with those organizations in need.

Wendy Pries sat down with Bethune House executive director Scott Davidson, Ritas Samis and employee Samuel van Weert last week.

The former resident of Norman Bethune’s birthplace, where her dad Rev. John Houston’s family lived at the United Church manse, wants to help promote a list of groups and organizations she has come up with to so you can assist by offering them an extra pair of hands or a few hours a week.

Many of the organizations are those people may not be aware of the opportunities they offer.

Among her suggestions is the Gravenhurst Manor — where Pries has already arranged for a weekly sit-down.

She also suggests the Red Cross blood donor clinic at the legion, GAP, the Hope Chest at the Anglican Church, the library, Gravenhurst Archives, Salvation Army Food Bank and the United Church, which needs an IT and electronics specialist.

Drop by and Thursdays at Bethune House for more information from Pries.

Or email her at [email protected].

All are welcome to chat and talk about volunteer opportunities, which takes place every Thursday afternoon at Bethune House from 1-3 p.m.
