BRACEBRIDGE — Fifteen wins behind the division leader it would be easy to give up.

But the Muskoka Bears at least played game — if not at times lame — hockey last night in a mismatched rematch with the Alliston Hornets.

While the result was the same the home team was always times in the game — if not on their game — skating hard end-to-end Saturday.

The Hornets were relentless running up another double digit 10-2 score for their 18th undefeated record against the last place northern team.

Their power play was 100 per cent scoring on six of six opportunities.

The Bears’ PP was 1-5 as they suffered their 16th loss in 18 skates this season.

Muskoka’s Tyson Jennings battles for the puck in a game effort that again proved futile in the end despite endless effort.

And, like last week, they were down early. The Hornets were up 3-0 after 2:11 — following an opening goal 40 seconds in and again at 1:20.

Down deep, things did look a tad promising for Muskoka as they came out of the first period down — only — 5-1 with Mason Taylor Wood replying at the 12-minute mark.

In the second, a second goal by captain Aiden MacDonald at 5:08 gave them hope, as the Bears defence held their smooth skating and passing opponents to two goals on Connor Sampson.

Captain Aiden MacDonald stretches for a loose puck in his own end. He had the Bears’ second goal. The first was by Mason Taylor Wood.

Three more in the third by Alliston were moot for the winners mostly disappointing another crowd 416.

Sampson gave up 10 goals on 49 shots and Owen Butler stopped the Bears 19 of 21 times.

The Bears are last

They get a better shot Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they host the Innisfil Spartans who have only 7 wins in 21 starts.

The northern division standings going in to last night’s home game show the difference between the first and last place teams in the PJHL Jr. C league.
