PORT CARLING MAN CHARGED AFTER FLEEING FIERY CRASH OVERNIGHT TODAY ON HWY. 118 IN MUSKOKA LAKES TOWNSHIP

PORT CARLING — A Port Carling man who fled a fiery stolen vehicle, which crashed overnight today east of Port Carling, faces multiple charges after eventually being apprehended.

Police said this morning they are investigating a small grey vehicle fire in Muskoka Lakes Township.

On Sept. 16, at 2:30 a.m., officers, along with Muskoka Lakes Fire and Muskoka EMS, responded to reports by members of the public of a vehicle that had left the roadway.

It struck a rock cut and was engulfed in flames on Muskoka Road 118 just east of Scarcliffe Road and not far from the landmark Muskoka rock cut, which is between Brackenrig Road and Milford Bay/Beaumaris.

Police attended the scene and initially were unable to locate the driver, but further investigation revealed the driver had taken the vehicle without the owner’s permission and fled the scene after the collision.

Muskoka Lakes firefighters responded along with police and EMS early this morning just east of Brackenrig Road.

The OPP have charged 21-year-old Gurmehakpreet Singh with the following:

  • Take Motor Vehicle without Consent CC 335(1)
  • Obstruct Peace Officer CC 129(a)
  • Fail to Remain at the Scene HTA 200(1)(a)
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with no Plates HTA 7(1)(b)(i)

Singh is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Oct. 22, 2024, to answer to his charges.
