BEAR IN SCHOOL YARD AT SPRUCE GLEN PUBLIC SCHOOL THIS AFTERNOON CAUSES LOCKDOWN, BUS DELAYS

HUNTSVILLE Police were called to escort students onto buses and leave Spruce Glen Public School this afternoon after a hold and secure due to a bear in the schoolyard.

All students and staff are safe and the OPP were called.

Families have received communication.

Spruce Glen Public School is east of downtown Huntsville and just north on District Road 3 off Hwy. 60 near the Kawartha Dairy retail store.

In a hold and secure, exterior doors are locked and classroom routines and lessons continue. Students will not be permitted outside and cannot be signed out while a hold and secure is in place. Parents/guardians are not able to pick up their students during a hold and secure.

The hold and secure was put in place about 2:30 p.m.

Staff were conducting an indoor dismissal process at the end of the day.

That meant students remained indoors and be escorted by their teacher directly onto a bus, or picked up directly by their parents/guardians.

Buses were filled one by one, and as such transportation home was slightly delayed.
A Huntsville OPP officer remained at the school to monitor the situation at the school.
