SMITH RECEIVES 4,000 NAMES ON PETITION OPPOSING MAHC HOSPITALS MODEL; MPP PROMISES TO HAVE IT TABLED IN LEGIGLATURE BY END OF MARCH

MUSKOKA — The public push to revise plans for Muskoka’s two hospitals continues throughout South Muskoka Memorial Hospital’s catchments area.

Dan and Cindy Waters, who have been championing their cause with a petition, say they presented their first list of names to MPP Graydon Smith last week.

At his office in Bracebridge, Smith received 4,000 names from the Waters, Jason Cole and Shelly McMurray.

They promise more signatures in the weeks to come.

In their update on behalf of the Save South Muskoka Hospital (SSMH), the Waters say Smith told them there is a process to having them processed and they should be presented to the legislature by the end of March.

On their website, they say Smith is unable to present the petition in the legislature as he is in cabinet and it’s against the rules.

He will see that someone has them and he can help us navigate having them presented at Queen’s Park.

ALSO FROM SSMH …

The SSMH release says: “In case you’ve not been updated by MAHC themselves, they are telling people they are looking at the south Muskoka doctors’ alternative proposal and will have it costed by their consultants.”

The Waters add: “They will need our help with that, because they get the numbers wrong and they need to have us watch over them.”

They also ask supporters to get out to town council meetings and the March 18 District of Muskoka meeting (1 p.m.) to “sit and listen and hold a save our hospital sign, that would be great.  We can’t stop now.”

Hard copies of the petition to sign calling for a reconsideration of Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare’s ‘Made in Muskoka’ model that critics charge would make the Bracebridge site subservient to Huntsville — and for the dissolvement of the MAHC board — can be found at the following locations says SSMH.
