LAKE OF BAYS BREWING EXPLOSION EARLY TODAY CAUSES VAPOUR PLUME RELEASE OVER DOWNTOWN BAYSVILLE

BAYSVILLE — A cloud of carbon dioxide erupted over downtown Baysville just after midnight today, prompting firefighters to descend on the Lake of Bays community in east Muskoka.

At 12:04 a.m. Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting an explosion at the Lake of Bays Brewing Company in Baysville. Crews from Station 4 in Baysville, including 15 firefighters and three trucks, attended the scene on Muskoka Road 117.

When they arrived minutes later from the station in Baysville, they say in a release that firefighters discovered a vapour cloud around the building — the waft eventually sprading across Hwy. 117 and settling a couple of feet above ground.

The cause of the plume was attributed to an over-pressurized tank containing carbon dioxide.

This caused a supply line to fail, resulting in the large release of carbon dioxide.

There was no fire present, and no injuries occurred from the incident.

A company technician was called to the scene to correct the issue.

They remind businesses and home owners that having an emergency response plan is very important.
