65-YEAR-OLD THORNHILL PADDLEBOARDER DROWNS IN HARP LAKE SUNDAY AFTERNOON

HUNTSVILLE — A frantic search by residents on Harp Lake early yesterday afternoon began after a 65-year-old man fell from a paddleboard and didn’t resurface.

Police and emergency services responded and the search continued into early last night with the aid of OPP Aviation services.

Police say that at 1:30 p.m., Sunday Sept. 3, they received a 911 call to Harp Lake for a male who had fallen from a paddleboard and not resurfaced on the small lake just northeast of Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville.

Waterfront residents, the OPP, Lake of Bays Fire Department and Muskoka Paramedic Services conducted an extensive search, but were unable to locate the missing man.

OPP Aviation Services were called in to the area; however they were also unable to locate the paddleboarder.

At 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) found him deceased in Harp Lake.

He has been identified as a 65-year-old male from Thornhill. His name was not disclosed.

The Thornhill man, 65, fell off his paddleboard in Harp Lake, which is just northeast of Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville off Hidden Valley Road.
