BRACEBRIDGE — Dan Brooks knows his way around Bracebridge.

So the former Dura Automotive executive, Bracebridge Bear hockey player, well-known Muskoka musician and former local politico should have little difficulty helping tap residents and cottagers for financial resources for the South Muskoka Memorial Hospital.

At Wednesday’s Sept 14 board of directors meeting he was appointed as chair.

Brooks has been a member of the board and executive committee since 2021.

“We are thrilled to have Dan serve as our new chair” says past chair Jodie Evans in a release. “His wealth of experience has been, and will continue to be an asset for our board and the success of the foundation.”

Brooks was born and raised in Bracebridge and has held executive positions in manufacturing and post-secondary education. He obtained his undergraduate degree from McMaster University and holds a Masters degree in Operations Management from Kettering University. He is also a Certified Human Resource Leader (CHRL Ret.).

As well he has held key elected, appointed and voluntary positions on a variety of councils, boards and commissions in the federal, municipal, health care, environmental and academic research fields.

An accomplished musician, Brooks enjoys his work as musical director at Port Carling United Church. He and his wife Cindy enjoy spending time with their two daughters Leah, and Lauren and their families both who reside in the Ottawa region.

Dan Brooks, new chair of the SMMH foundation, was raised in Bracebridge and will have special connections to help the local hospital with its fundraising for much needed beds and equipment.
