DRIVER HITS POLE, DEPLOYS AIR BAGS, CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED OPERATION

GRAVENHURST — An accident here last night near the south end of the main street has police charging a man with impaired driving.

The OPP say that on Sunday May 1, just after 10:30 p.m., a member of the public called the police to report that a person had crashed their car into a concrete pole in a parking lot near Edward Street causing the airbags to deploy.

The driver was not injured.

However, officers responded and after an investigation into the cause, arrested and charged 76-year-old Gerald Lawrence, of Gravenhurst, with Impaired Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Lawrence is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge May 31.

As usual his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded.
