SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — An average of more than 50 cases a day over the weekend makes the region one of the province’s top hot spots today.

The 155 cases Friday, Saturday and Sunday includes a dozen in Muskoka — and 143 in Simcoe.

And while 3 of them were among children under 18, in Simcoe more than 50 kids tested positive.

As of today 87% of youth 12 to 17 have also received at least one vaccine

Last week there were 325 total cases in Simcoe-Muskoka, which was 31% higher than the 249 cases the week before.

There are 446 active cases as of Monday.

Among the 155 latest cases reported by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), 94 people were unvaccinated, 50 were fully vaccinated and 11 partially vaccinated.

This as there’s a delay in the expected start of vaccines for kids 5-11, which was expected to happen in just over a week.

But now the provincial rollout is not expected until late November-early December, says Toronto’s Mayor John Tory.

Barely time to have any strong impact for Christmas.
