‘DO NOT USE — OR BOIL WATER’ IN GRAVENHURST: WARNS DISTRICT

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com

GRAVENHURST — The town is in a tizzy over an early warning today for residents here who are being told: “Do not use the water, and do not boil the water from your taps.”

And people are being told to stock up or go to Bracebridge to a public tap for “safe” water.

Jennifer Duncan, of the District of Muskoka that operates local water and sewer, tells MuskokaTODAY.com this morning before 10 a.m.: “We are working on determining the cause of the issue.  We will update the media and public as soon as we have more information to share.”

In a release at 7:01 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 27, she said: “The District of Muskoka is experiencing a problem with the municipal water system, affecting water supply to the Town of Gravenhurst.

“Do not use the water, and do not boil the water from your taps.

“The District is investigating the issue and will provide an update soon.

She advises that as an alternative, residents should temporarily get their water from a safe source, including purchasing bottled water in the interim.

There is a public tap at 340 Eccelstone Resevoire in Bracebridge or buy bottled water in the short-term.

She notes: If you are accessing the water at the public tap, please ensure you follow COVID-19 safety protocols and maintain social distancing and wear a face-covering where necessary.

This is the second major water failure in Muskoka, following one in Bracebridge that lasted more than a week.
