MAN, 80, WHO FOUGHT OFF BEAR GETS POLICE CITATION FOR BRAVERY

PORT CARLING — An 80-year-old man who fought off a bear in his home has been commended by police.

Norman Ruff, of Port Carling, received a Citation for Bravery from OPP detachment commander Inspector Michael Burton yesterday.

A black bear entered his home on July 31, 2019.

After a brief physical confrontation in which Ruff received minor injuries, he was able to force the animal to flee through a door.

The award presentation was made at his home.
