NOISY MOTORCYCLE MUFFLER DRAWS POLICE WHO LAY IMPAIRED CHARGE

GRAVENHURST — Noisy motorcycles — and trucks — that roar through town like freight trains don’t catch the ear of the OPP like this.

A constant bane on this community, disturbingly-loud mufflers are a civil annoyance not held in check by responsible police and bylaw peace services.

Police in other towns and cities across Canada have been cracking down on the urban blight.

But Wednesday night a motorcyclist was charged with impaired driving after being heard a block from the OPP satellite police off Gravenhurst’s main street.

The OPP say officers were patrolling the downtown Sept. 15 at 9:30 p.m. when they heard the sound of revving motorcycles at Church Street near First Street.

That’s where they saw and heard the motorcyclist.

After speaking to the driver, they arrested and charged 37-year-old Barry Cross, of Gravenhurst, with Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Impaired by Alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Cross is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Oct. 12, 2021 to answer to his charges.

As a result Cross’s driver’s license was suspended for 90 days and the motorcycle impounded.
