SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — LTC residents are back in line for booster shots not long after they and most of the staff who care for them have been vaccinated.

Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization said today third shots are being recommended.

This as a dozen new COVID cases Tuesday in Simcoe-Muskoka include a Muskoka Lakes woman, aged 45-64. She is under investigation after being reported Sunday, with a first episode Saturday.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) reports 85 per cent of residents 12 and above having once been vaccinated. That’s 74.4 per cent of the population.

And 69.2 per cent of all residents are fully vaccinated.

Of the new positive cases 9 were unvaccinated, 2 were partially vaccinated and 1 fully vaccinated.

There are 137 active COVID cases and 101 active VOCs.

Hospitalizations returned to double digits, going up by 3 to 11.

As predicted, the return to indoors is seeing cases on the rise again in part of Canada.

Saskatchewan reports 449 and 10 deaths.

And a doctor there shared this heart-wrenching tweet about an unvaccinated patient who died.

Dr. Alexander Wong wrote: “Person in Regina hospital. Crying. Dying. ‘I should have had my shots. My wife had hers. She kept telling me to get mine. I’m going to die, aren’t I?’ He spoke w/ family one last time before going to ICU. He told them he was so sorry. He died 3 days later, alone.”
