CONVICTED DRUG OFFENDER CHARGED AGAIN YESTERDAY IN GRAVENHURST

GRAVENHURST — A Gravenhurst woman in and out of court and jail and convicted of multiple drug offences was arrested again yesterday and charged with drug and weapon charges.

Tammy Buker, 38, was among three Muskoka residents arrested here yesterday and held overnight in jail to appear in bail court today in Bracebridge after being charged with parole violations along with drug and weapon charges.

Provincial police say that on Aug. 4 the OPP’s Muskoka Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) conducted an investigation into three people in Gravenhurst who were violating the terms of their release orders.

At 3:50 p.m., with the assistance of the Bracebridge OPP, they were all arrested in Gravenhurst.

Police say a search of them revealed a quantity of crack cocaine, as well as a prohibited knife.

Buker, who pleaded guilty in court on June 1 to drug possession, trafficking charges and failure to comply with a court order, told the judge that “being in prison was the intervention that save my life.”

She told Justice Jon-Jo Douglas that drugs had ruined her life and that she planned to re-unite with her kids and leave Muskoka.

Buker was sentenced to four months in jail — with consideration for pre-sentence custody — and given 18 months of probation with terms to continue counselling for addiction and mental health.

Douglas also issued her a 10-year weapons ban.

As a result she was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance S. 4(1) CDSA
  • Obstruct Police S. 129(a) CCC
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon S. 92(2) CCC
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order, S. 117.01(1) CCC
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order, S. 733.1(1) CCC  x 5

Also charged were:

William Buker, 35, of Bracebridge

  • Fail to Comply with Release Order, S. 145(5)(a) CC x2
  • Drive Under Suspension, S.53(1) HTA

Karolina Janiec, 30, of Gravenhurst

  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking, S. 145(4)(a) CC x2

William Buker and Janiec were also charged last month with drug, weapon and with possession of property obtained by crime.

All three were held in custody for a bail hearing Aug. 5, 2021, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge, Ontario.

Tammy Buker, 38, was one of three people charged yesterday in Gravenhurst during a Muskoka Street Crime Unit investigation in to parole violations.
