TWO BAY STREET RIDE CHECKS LEAD TO IMPAIRED CHARGES

GRAVENHURST — Two local drivers face impaired charges after police RIDE checks here on Bay Street — including one late last night.

Provincial police report that on Monday June 7, at 11 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE check program when they say a vehicle attempted to flee upon seeing police.

Officers were able to follow the vehicle and stopped the driver a short distance away.

They arrested and charged 34-year-old Evan Monk, of Bracebridge, with Impaired Operation CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Monk is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Aug. 17, 2021.

His driver’s licence was suspended and his vehicle impounded.

Two nights earlier, police were again doing a RIDE check on Bay Street at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 5.

The driver stopped and after a discussion with police they arrested and charged 65-year-old Joel Holmstrom, of Gravenhurst, with Impaired Operation CC 320.14(1)(a) and Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b).

Holmstrom is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on July 6, 2021.

His driver’s licence, too, was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded.

Two drivers from Gravenhurst and Bracebridge face impaired charges after being stopped last night and Saturday night.
