PERILOUS PAIR RESCUED AFTER TIPPING CANOE IN BASS LAKE
MUSKOKA LAKES — The season’s first water accident turned out safely Sunday afternoon after a pair of overturned canoeists were rescued by a woman on shore.
Police say that on April 18, at 1:30 p.m., officers were called to Bass Lake in response to an overturned canoe which left two people in cold water.
Before they arrived a nearby resident spotted perilous pair and jumped into her own small boat and reached the canoeists and was able to successfully rescue both by getting them onboard her vessel and bringing them to shore.
Another resident responded as well assisting by bringing blankets and recovering the canoe.
Police say they appreciate and credit the actions of the quick-thinking residents with saving two lives.
