DRIVER FLEES AFTER HITTING HORTONS DRIVE-THRU SIGN, CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED

HUNTSVILLE — A speeding novice driver faces a half dozen charges including being impaired and driving with cannabis at his side after leaving the road and smashing in to a drive-thru sign and hydro pole — then running away.

Provincial police charged Corey Howard, 29, last Friday night at 7:45 p.m. after being called to the Hortons parking lot at Hanes Road and West Road, in Huntsville.

They say a car travelling at a high rate of speed left Hanes Road and went into the parking lot and a hydro pole.

The driver left the collision scene on foot prior to police arrival.

Police located and arrested Howard on West Road in Huntsville, where he was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

As a result, he has been charged with:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired contrary to section 320.14 (1) (a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired-blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg contrary to section 320.14 (1) (b)
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available contrary to section 12(1) Cannabis Control Act.
  • Novice driver operate motor vehicle with- blood alcohol concentration above zero contrary to section 44.1(3) of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Fail to remain to remain a scene of accident contrary to section 200(1) (a) of the Highway Traffic Act.

Howard was released from custody and is scheduled to appear on May 05, 2021 in the Ontario Court of Justice Huntsville.
