SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — A young Bracebridge woman is among an encouraging number of new COVID cases being reported by the health unit today, which date back to Boxing Day.

The other 46 of 47 cases were all in Simcoe and come a day after 79 cases were reported on Tuesday.

She is between the ages of 18 and 34 and is under investigation as to the cause of her infection, which was first detected Jan. 14, recorded the following day and reported this afternoon, Thursday Jan. 20.

She is the 9th case reported this week in Muskoka, following 8 on Monday dating back to Christmas Eve.

There were no Muskoka cases yesterday.

The cases bring to 159 the number reported so far this week by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit, which says in a note that 11 cases from an outbreak in Barrie were removed to other Public Health Units.

Dr. Charles Gardner, MOH, expressed “cautious” optimism yesterday toward this seemingly growing downward New Year trajectory.

This as provincial numbers jumped back up to 2,655 — with 89 deaths — following 1,913 cases and 46 deaths Tuesday.

Toronto had 925 cases, Peel 473, York 226 and Windsor-Essex 179.
