COVID NUMBERS BACK UP TO 40 — BUT ONLY IN SIMCOE TODAY

Mark Clairmont | MuskokaTODAY.com

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Three more deaths as of today are part of a climb in COVID cases reported by the health unit.

After an optimistic start in the week yesterday at 29, another 40 people in Simcoe as of Tuesday tested positive for the corona virus.

Muskoka reported no new cases; and one case in Bracebridge was removed to another health unit.

All this as MPP Norm Miller said today that local LTCs and retirement homes in his riding have received $5.5 million from the province in addition funding to combat outbreaks.

Part of the bump back up was that more than half them — 24 — were again in Barrie again, where Simcoe’s county capital city is the epicentre of the emerging UK variant due to more than 100 confirmed cases at Roberta Place.

After a day of optimism provincially yesterday, numbers climbed back up with York Region (where there are at least 14 UK variant cases) reported 171 COVID-positive tests.

And Peel, always running high, saw 342 with the virus.

Toronto returned to over 500 + 2. The city’s MOH Dr. Eileen de Villa said it may be because testing numbers are down.
