BRACEBRIDGE DRIVER CHARGED WITH IMPAIRED, BREAK & ENTERS
ORILLIA — A suspected impaired driver who fled police has been charged with a pair of break and enters.
Police arrested the Bracebridge man with numerous offences after he refused to stop for them, then they say he unlawfully entered two houses.
They say that on Saturday Jan. 2, just after 9 a.m., a 911 call reported a suspicious male behind the wheel of a parked vehicle in a Murphy Road business parking lot.
And that the driver was not responding to people knocking on the window.
Before officers arrived, the driver awoke and drove the from the parking lot.
An officer observed the vehicle a short distance away and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, believing the driver to be impaired.
Police say the driver fled and a short time later another 911 call came from a homeowner who reported a male entered their garage before fleeing on foot.
Police quickly arrested a man a few minutes later and the officer was able identify him as the driver from the earlier complaint.
As a result, Marcel Diotte, 55, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Dangerous operation
- Flight from peace officer
- Operation while prohibited
- Break, enter a place – with intent to commit indictable offence
- Break, enter a dwelling house – with intent to commit indictable offence
- Possession – break in instruments
- And two counts of fail to comply with probation order
Diotte was held for a bail hearing and is to appear next on Dec. 6, 2021 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
